Simple House Rules in Retirement Homes

You’d think retirement homes would be pretty lenient on its residents, especially since most of the people staying are already having a difficult time getting around and about. However, for safety measures and to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and given a comfortable time, certain house rules are implemented in pretty much every retirement home there is.

Visiting Hours

Most homes implement a strict window for visiting hours. Visiting hours are the time of the day when friends and family are allowed to come and visit their loved ones at their retirement homes.

Exercise Respect for Others

Employees, residents, and visitors of retirement homes are respected to treat everyone with courtesy and respect so as not to bring tension and stress to the environment that is supposed to be one of comfort and care for its residents. Aside from avoiding profanity and discriminatory language, courtesy is also exercised through adjusting the volume of TVs and radios so that all residents and visitors will not be disturb by their neighbors.

Smoking and Alcohol are Not Permitted

Smoking and drinking are both quite harmful vices that may make some of the residents sick or uncomfortable. Many people are bothered by cigarette smoke, not to mention the fact that secondhand smoke is rather unhealthy to inhale. Alcohol may cause its drinkers to become rowdy and difficult to handle, which is why it is prohibited as well.

Bringing Medication is Not Permitted

Bring non-prescription medication, or medication that does not come with a prescription is not permitted in most homes because there is risk of abusing and mixing medications. Also, non-prescription medication leaves a risk for causing more harm or injury to its takers.

No Pets Allowed

While our furry friends maybe cute and cuddly, some residents may be allergic or have an aversion or fear of certain animals. That is why it is advised in most care homes to avoid bringing and caring for pets. Some homes have outdoor areas where families can go out and some homes permit pets to stay in this area.
